Short Description
Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender elders face specific concerns as they age. Because of institutionalized heterosexism, they often do not access adequate health care, affordable housing and other social services that they need.
Summary
No government social programs recognize or support the families lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people build.
- Social Security, Medicaid, and pension policies must change to treat same-sex relationships equally to opposite-sex relationships.
- Additonally, general services available to seniors must expand to include lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender seniors.
