Policy Institute internships for spring 2007
Task Force Policy Institute Undergraduate Internships:
The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force is looking for motivated individuals to work part time during spring 2007 as unpaid interns at the Policy Institute, located at our New York City office.
What is the Policy Institute?
The Policy Institute of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force is the largest and oldest think tank in the U.S. engaged in research, policy analysis and strategic action to advance equality and understanding of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people. At the Policy Institute we are expanding the knowledge base that our movement needs to conduct informed public education and advocacy campaigns to ensure that policy frameworks treat our community and our relationships fairly, including those frameworks not usually thought of as “gay” issues like anti-poverty policy. We then translate this into tools that grassroots activists can use to conduct public education and public engagement campaigns. What is the undergraduate internship? Undergraduate interns will work with the research director and a staff of policy analysts and graduate Vaid fellows [0].
Duties will include, but are not be limited, to the following:
- Construction of an electronic/online document library and storage center.
- General administration.
- Basic research and data gathering and organizing to major ongoing research projects.
Qualifications
We are looking for students with knowledge of and commitment to LGBT issues and equality; a friendly, outgoing and responsive personality, with solid working knowledge of MS Office applications. Interns will be taught how to use our newly acquired data reference software, Reference Manager.
Hours: Flexible based on your schedule, but a minimum of 10 hours per week. Our office hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Benefits: Academic credit if academic institution permits, and the chance to work with a dedicated staff of people and get a foot on the first rung of the professional activist career ladder.
Process: If interested, please submit your resume as an MS word attachment to Nick Ray at nray@theTaskForce.org [1]. Please explain briefly in your e-mail why this opportunity appeals to you, and your availability during the spring semester of 2007.
