In this episode, Bill Serpe discusses how a lack of resources can make you give up your life, the challenges and importance of asking for help, the need to improve access to health care and the urgency of protecting “our treasures.”

There's no point in us having to go back in the closet just because we got old. Bill Serpe has been the executive director of SAGE/Milwaukee for three years, successfully transitioning the organization from all-volunteer management to professionally led. He has worked in public and private corporate administration for the past 10 years. He sits on the board of governors for the Milwaukee County Department on Aging Care Management Organization by appointment from the county executive. Having already traveled extensively internationally and throughout the continental United States, once he retires he plans to travel around the world going west from Milwaukee until he gets back to Milwaukee.

From the Long View: LGBT Elders and Experts Speak is a five-part interview series from the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force that features selected members of the first-ever National LGBT Aging Roundtable.
