Activist Story – Sharon P. Troyer“My name is Sharon P. Troyer, and I am a volunteer with the Welcoming Community Network, an organization made up of people from Community of Christ. Through the work of WCPL (Welcoming Church Program Leaders) our particular denominational program of welcoming ministry has been greatly enriched. We are very grateful for the assistance that comes through the ecumenical efforts of the Institute for Welcoming Resources. We particularly appreciate knowing that the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force has a deep interest in the important and necessary work of the welcoming church movement, enough to lend support and help us with grassroots organizing and production of resources. “People need to know the ‘good news’ that there are churches eager to be public about acceptance and celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and want them to be fully included in our congregations, opportunities for ordination and inclusion in the church family. “For two years I served as the national field organizer for Gay and Lesbian Acceptance (GALA), the ministry that works to welcome people of all sexual orientations and gender identities into full participation of Community of Christ, whose headquarters is in Independence, Missouri. “Thank you so much for your work!” | Sharon P.
