Dan Hawes
Director of Organizing & Training

Dan Hawes has been leading community and election organizing campaigns for the past 11 years. His first organizing drives were with the United Farm Workers union, where he led successful consumer actions to support farm workers in winning union contracts.

In his current capacity, he provides training, technical assistance and supervision to the Task Force's six field organizing staff as well as to leaders involved in key ballot measure and legislative campaigns. Prior to this, Hawes served as lead organizer for a variety of projects and large-scale ballot measure efforts. In 2004, he took a leave of absence from the Task Force to serve as campaign manager for Basic Rights New Mexico, where the New Mexico LGBT community prepared a successful statewide campaign in anticipation of an anti-gay initiative repeal of its anti-discrimination law. In 2002, he served as the field director for the No on 1 initiative campaign in Tacoma, Washington, during the three weeks prior to election day. As field director, he led all efforts to recruit and train volunteers to campaign door to door with voters. He's also helped lead, recruit and train other leaders and volunteers to engage in voter contact actions in successful initiative campaigns in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Miami-Dade County, Fla., and Miami Beach, Fla..
