Richard Peter Wharton is a Financial Advisor in the Miami Florida office of Merrill Lynch. Peter focuses primarily on the comprehensive wealth management needs of businesses, their owners, and non-profit endowments. He has been instrumental in creating and implementing the company’s GLBTQ and African American efforts to effectively meet the needs of a diverse marketplace with customized and creative solutions.

Peter is actively involved in the community co-chairing the Miami Recognition Dinner for the second year in a row. He sits on the United Way of Miami Youth Impact Council and the Dade Community Foundation’s GLBTQ Advisory Committee where a combined $3.4 million in funding was allocated to local 501(c)3 organizations in fiscal year 2004-2005. Peter is also on the Board of Directors of the local public radio station WLRN.

A native Bostonian, Peter earned his B.S. degree and officer’s commission from the U.S Naval Academy in 1986. After an 8 year career in Naval Aviation, he received his M.B.A. in Finance, Marketing and International Business from Northwestern University in 1996. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch in 2003, his investment experience included advising institutional money managers on the equity sales & trading floors of Salomon Brothers and Salomon Smith Barney. Later, at Donaldson Lufkin and Jenrette and then at Credit Suisse First Boston, he was a principal in equity capital markets leading more than 97 companies through successful public equity offerings. Peter left New York City in 2004 and now lives in Miami Beach.
