Alex Garnick is a graduate of the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in Baltimore, Maryland and of Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. At Maryland Law, Alex won the William P. Cunningham Award for exceptional achievement and service to the school, the Jackson Lewis LLP Labor & Employment Award, and was a two-time nominee for the MLK Diversity Award for his work in extending healthcare coverage to students' same-sex partners and adding gender identity and expression to the school's non-discrimination policy. He was also a Rose Zetzer Fellow in the Women, Leadership, & Equality Program and in the spring of 2013, he assisted in organizing a conference analyzing the intersectionality of sex, race and sexuality, entitled Switch Point Stories. Alex has previously worked as a law fellow for the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force in addition to working as a student attorney for Free State Legal Project and Maryland's Juvenile Law, Children's Issues and Legislative Advocacy Clinic. Alex served as the Co-Chair of the LGBT Alliance at Maryland Law and has spoken on panels such as the Symposium on Transgender Issues in Law and Policy held by Georgetown Law in the fall of 2011. He will be an Associate in the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Division at Shook, Hardy & Bacon LLP starting in the spring of 2014.
