Do you believe in workplace equality? So does the Task Force — join us and tell President Obama to step up and issue an executive order to protect LGBT people who work for federal contractors. Nearly 90 percent of Fortune 500 companies protect their lesbian, gay and bisexual employees and nearly 50 percent protect their transgender employees. Employers who discriminate should not be rewarded with government contracts. We'll personally deliver all your messages to the White House, so tell the president to stop dragging his feet. Sign our petition now!

Frank Benedetti and Gary Trowbridge are Leadership Council members about to celebrate their 50th anniversary — and that's made them think about how much our movement has changed. "We remember when it was illegal to depict gay people in movies, television, and on the stage ... We grew up when we would be subject to police harassment, home raids, government purges, and the multitude of attempts to make us 'invisible.' All along we were grateful for the inspiration and leadership of the Task Force and how its actions helped move our movement along. This is why we are long time supporters. Thank you for all you do to make 'things get better.'" Thank you, Frank and Gary, and Happy Anniversary!

13 Years Ago April 1996

The Day of Silence was begun in 1996, and is now the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network's (GLSEN) annual protest against the bullying of LGBT students. The event takes place every April 20 and has become the largest student-led action with the goal of creating safer schools for everyone. The Task Force understands just how toxic schools can still be for LGBT students and their supporters, and that's why we fought for passage of the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act. We were also recently part of the White House's "Safe Schools and Communities" town meeting.

Anytime Colin leaves the office he's almost always carrying his Kindle. He loves to read, so there's usually a different book at least once a week. While he enjoys reading all kinds of books, lately he's been enjoying a lot of nonfiction. Colin just finished a book he says he really identifies with; take a look and see if it's something you'd like to read too. More › |
