Election 2006 and Creating Change recap

Read, download resources and view pictures from two important recent events affecting our community: Election 2006 and the Creating Change Conference.

Be sure to read Matt Foreman’s “State of the Movement” address, which outlines “a vision and an agenda where equality is the floor and a transformed America is the ceiling.”

Updated version of Mapping Our Rights: Navigating Discrimination against Women, Men and Families

Ipas, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and the SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Health Collective have released a newly updated Mapping Our Rights: Navigating Discrimination against Women, Men and Families.

It is an easy-to-use innovative interactive map with state-by-state rankings, including information on the 32 new bills restricting sexual and reproductive rights passed in state houses around the country in the last six months. The map and updated rankings provide important information for analysts and activists on the impact of policies restricting your ability to live a healthy life, select an intimate partner, get married and raise a family.

All Families Matter

The Nov. 13 special "Giving" philanthropy section of the New York Times had an extraordinary full-page ad placed by Funders for Lesbian & Gay Issues titled "All Families Matter." The ad highlights facts and challenges faced by LGBT families. It also notes that only one-tenth of one percent of foundation dollars goes to support the LGBT community. The ad was sponsored by the Arcus Foundation.

A Night Out

On the evening of Thursday, Nov. 23 (that’s right — Thanksgiving), spend some time with your other family when the Task Force joins with Reel Gay for A Night Out. The event is taking place at participating bars and clubs across the country where you can view a special Reel Gay video about the Task Force and digest that Thanksgiving meal.
